Nothing But Net, A Shooting Clinic with Herb Magee

There are a few names that would form a short list that is synonymous with teaching the art shooting a basketball. I have reviewed other top notch videos over the years. I get lucky once in a while and stumble upon invaluable tools for teaching the art of the free throw, jump shot, and 3 pointer. Herb Magee's name and video deserve to be included in the list. He has worked with a lot players in his 36 years as head coach at Philadelphia University, formerly Philadelphia Textile. He recently passed UCLA's legendary coach John Wooden on the all-time list of NCAA victories. He knows the game inside and out and his shooting techniques are sound.

Herb has developed a shooting video and DVD to highlight the fundamentals that he stresses in learning how to properly follow through with a good jump shot and free throw. His analogies on the 3 pointer as well as basic stance and footwork are invaluable to today's player. I had the opportunity to view the DVD, which is of extremely high quality. I watched the DVD several times and took some invaluable notes.

Yeah, I know, the question always comes up, Is this the best video? My answer. The market is becoming increasingly saturated with would-be (or wanna be) clinicians. Herb knows the game. His advice is noteworthy, thorough, and concise. The DVD is not long winded. I have had a lot of videos put me to sleep. However, Herb's teaching methods and advice kept me awake. Here I go again, am I beating around the bush? Is the video good? Yes, the video is excellent. Is it the video to end all videos? NO. Can you learn from it? Absolutely.

I have viewed so many videos over the past several years that I have started to pay attention to other areas, not just drills. If you want drills, buy his Nothing But Drills video. If you want to watch someone hit jumpshot after jumpshot while explaining proper technique, BUY IT! You won't be disappointed. The only downside is it is a two DVD set. Each DVD (or VHS) will cost you $29.95. The two video set is $55.90 plus a shipping and handling fee of $5.95 for one video and $1.00 per additional video.
