|Better Basketball's - Better 1 on 1 Defense
by Rick Torbett|
I have looked over the Better Basketball Series on several occasions. Each time I watch one of the videos I gain a renewed insight into
the fundamentals of the game. I like to watch the videos to keep myself reminded of the little things necessary to keep my players continuing
to develop their skills. Each of the videos really hits home. Whether it is ball handling, shooting, defense, or the
new passing video, the Better Basketball series
does an excellent job in explaining the fundamentals necessary to improve your game.
Each video is developed similarly and broken into chapters.
The Better 1 on 1 Defense video is broken down as follows:
- Body Control: The Basics of Stance
- Defensive Footwork: Speed through Efficiency
- Defending the Dribbler
- Defending the Pivot on the Perimeter
- Defending the Post
- Defending the Shot
- Game Hints
I have not come across many videos that focus on the art of defending in a 1 on 1 situation as exhaustively as the Better Basketball series.
This is a solid 45 minute video on what it takes to improve defensively. Foot work, sliding, controlling the dribbler, recommended workouts.
It's all here. The video moves at a nice pace as Rick Torbett explains the necessary fundamentals of defending different situations. Basketball
players need to be aware of the subtle changes in differing positions on the floor. There really is a difference guarding a defender in the post
versus a guard that can stroke by the arc or put the ball on the floor. The information is all here. The chapters move along well without dwelling
on any one technique more than another. It is important that all the steps are covered. Rick does a great job in explaining every step along the way.
Questions will always arise on proper techniques for defending different situations. Does anyone have all the answers? Where can I find the definitive video?
I would imagine a video could take hours in length and become really boring. How many times have you watched a video and ten minutes in find
yourself nodding off? The clinician gets monotonic in tone. The quality lacks a little. The background music is cheesy. Sound familiar?? I have watched
some real bombs before.
So, is the Better 1 on 1 Defense video a dud? Absolutley NOT! Video quality is great, narration excellent, fundamentals
are explained in detail without becoming boring. Add it to your DVD/video collection!
